17 reasons why it is important for all of us, not just our children
Education is not just about learning to read - write and manipulate numbers. It is so much more.
Literacy is about learning to recognise words and the ability to read and write. Numeracy is about learning the different processes of manipulating numbers for the desired result.
Education is about using those abilities to learn and to grow.
But education does not just involve reading and writing and learning about numbers, no matter how important those skills are. Education is learning how to do things practically, to use your senses, to communicate with others to learn how to develop the knowledge gained, and to share that knowledge.
Education is important to children for many reasons.
Here are just a few. I'm sure you can think of a lot more that could be added.
It helps them to think critically
It develops a sense of pride when something is mastered
It exposes them to new ideas
It develops their creativity and imagination
It helps them to understand the world around them and to be part of that world
It helps them to find a path to a career that they might wish to pursue when they are grown
It can turn their dreams into reality
It can make the world a safer place - having a clear understanding of right and wrong
It enables them to live independently when they are older and have enough understanding to keep themselves safe
It allows them to follow their interest and develop new interest
It gives them a purpose in life and once their interest is aroused in a subject it diminishes that feeling of boredom
It allows them to learn 'facts'. These facts might not seem relevant at the time - but you never know when you might need them.
Education can improve their health. By understanding simple things like healthy diets and so on...
To keep up with all the changes in the technological world
To improve innovation - We will always need inventors and scientist.
Education open up new worlds of discovery
It allows them to share their knowledge with others and therefor expand that knowledge
It enables them to develop skills, either for hobbies or for a chosen career
Remember that not all education can be found in books.

Even for those that plan to send their children to school when they are old enough - should not make the mistake of thinking that's when their child's education begins.
A child's education begins from the time the open their eyes to the world. And you are their first and best teacher.
